Any addiction and abuse problem can affect many aspects of someone’s life. When they get in into drugs, and are unlucky enough to have an addiction, the problems can seem to start mounting.
What many who get into drugs do not realize (or fail to care about) is the affect that an drug addiction can have on all aspects of their lives. One of the unfortunate ways that a meth addiction can affect someone’s life is through their family. Often, families are hurt and battered by a family member who has a meth addiction. While many families may be shocked to find that someone in their family has an issue with marijuana or alcohol, these are relatively accepted by society. They are considered common; almost popular. When someone is found to have a meth addiction, however, it seems to take the family completely out of a comfort zone. Meth is not as popular or understood, but is more dangerous that the others. Someone with a meth addiction can easily go through withdrawal and mood swings. This withdrawal and mood swing tendency can make them dangerous to a family, both emotionally and physically. Knowing that someone is hurting, hearing them say hurtful things can be emotionally crushing for a family. When the person with a meth addiction becomes violent, it becomes extraordinarily hard to deal with.
Family members who have someone with a meth addiction find themselves in a catch 22. If they do whatever they can to help the person, they may take the welcome, and the money, as an acceptance of the choice. If they fail to help that family member in any way, they may feel guilty, as they feel as they’ve done nothing to actually help the person. Either way, a meth addiction can seriously harm everyone in a family.
