Drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are not as comfortable as your home environment, and you should not expect them to be. If you were able to be successful in addiction recovery without the limits set in place by a treatment center, you would have done so already.

There are things that you simply can’t have available to you if you are to learn how to be sober. Every rule that is put in place in a rehab center has specific reasons behind it, and they are all created with your benefit and long-term wellbeing in mind. There are good reasons why you can’t have total freedom during this period in your life. A structured environment is necessary for teaching you how to change your destructive habits that the disease of addiction has caused you to engage in.There are effective treatment methods available for substance abuse, but they are not easy. The process is difficult, and it requires you to do some things that you won’t want to do. You have to endure this in the short term in order to have all of the good things that can come from living without drugs and alcohol over the long run. Giving up some of the freedoms that you normally enjoy helps to prevent you from experiencing a relapse. These same things create a safe and supportive place for you and the other patients in a treatment center to live in.

Over time, you will be able to regain the personal freedoms that you have to give up for drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs. Remember that these limits are not permanent by any means. Your need for supervision, monitoring, and rules will decrease as you build more skills and have more time of sobriety under your belt. The things that you will gain from this temporary inconvenience are well worth it.
