People who have become dependent upon pain medication have the ability to go through a drug treatment program. A patient can choose to go through at outpatient treatment program which lasts approximately 6 weeks.
This time frame can be expanded if the need arises.By using an outpatient treatment program the client is still able to go to work and interact with their family. The substance abuse programs are designed to meet the needs of the client. These programs can address alcohol, drug abuse, or a combination of the two. A program that is not working will only result in a relapse.
The first couple of weeks will be a slow process as your body rids it’s self of all the toxins. This is a crucial time in the recovery process. Emotions can become overwhelming. Feelings of abandonment and frustration can occur. Anxiety and insomnia can affect you when you least expect it. This is ok. It means your body is getting back to normal.
There is no better time to have a support group than at the very beginning. This group of family members and friends can be there to encourage you as you continue your journey to a better life. They can help you when you feel there is no reason to go on. Your support group can show you other ways to relieve stress and tension than by resorting to substance abuse. This can be running, boating, or even a relaxing day of fishing. What ever works is what is recommended.
As the outpatient detox program continues, your body will go through many changes. The medical staff associated with your drug treatment program will monitor your health as you go through the program. After your body has become clean you can start to enjoy life again with a whole new outlook.
