A successful addiction treatment program for someone with a severe alcohol or drug problem has many layers. It involves carefully researching to find the correct treatment center or rehab facility, there’s more to it than that.

Making the treatment program as easy and successful as possible begins with getting addiction treatment early. The whole process will be much simpler with early detection. This can be done through an evaluation of the addict’s situation and brief interventions. If the person won’t agree to beginning a treatment program, a true intervention with a trained profession may be necessary. Next, it’s ideal to create a plan of action for addiction treatment. Some people require an inpatient rehab facility and others don’t. There are many variations to consider based on the individual’s level of alcohol and drug abuse, how long they’ve been addicted, and other unique circumstances.

Some people decide to use medications in the detox process or other parts of addiction recovery. Experts disagree about whether this is a good idea or not, but it may make the treatment program easier for some. After detox, the addict will probably need to enter a longer term rehab facility. This can include either inpatient or outpatient care. Generally, the longer a patient receives help from a treatment center, the better. Whether or not the individual does this, they should have access to care for any special needs they have. This could include psychological counseling, social skills education, or a job service.

The addiction treatment plan should include some type of support for the addict after they’ve left the more intense phase of treatment. Some rehab facilities offer aftercare services. Other times, one will need to find their own resources such as a crisis center that can be contacted in an emergency, a support group, or an addiction counselor. This will reduce the risk of relapse.
